1. I also was a failure this month. 🙂 I did read two Newbery books (My Brother Sam is Dead and Johnny Tremain) but nothing from the 1920’s. There were only a few that were appealing to me and I couldn’t find them at the library.

    I read Smoky the Cowhorse last year. I remember being very put-off at the end by something racist, although I can’t remember now the specifics. I kind of expected some of that from that time period but I remember it seemed uglier than I expected. Up to that point, I mostly enjoyed the book, although I’m not hugely into horse stories so it got a bit tedious. Not a glowing review, I guess.

    I hope to join in for real in February.
