  1. Love both these books, yes Papa is rather strong but like able all the same. I love the second book in that I love seeing how Mama emerges strong yet retaining her femininity. highly recommend tracking down copies of both the old movies too.

  2. We love both books and the old original movies. Another book that is similar that we love even more is Mama’s Bank Account. There is a movie too called, I Remember Mama.

  3. Oh, I love this book. I read it when I was a girl and thought it the best then. I would love to reread now!! ‘Tis on my TBR list!! Thanks.

  4. This sounds so good. I am only familiar with the old Lucile Ball film as well – love the sandwich-making assembly line and the one kid cutting off his tie in the sandwich. Love that quote at the end. I’ve wondered if I would be more fearful if anything happened to my husband, but it makes sense that if you survive the worst, you’ll feel like you could face anything else.

  5. I read this book SO many times when I was growing up. I loved it then! Still have my copies of the series. Haven’t read it in a forever. I keep thinking I’ll save it for when the girl is old enough to appreciate it, then I’ll pull it out for a read aloud.
