We visited Shiloh National Military Park on our last official school day before breaking for Christmas. (But yes, we’re Learning All the Time. 😉 ) This was a perfect way to end our year and also to cap off our Civil War studies. It was a beautiful, though quite blustery, day. I’ll let the pictures mostly speak for themselves.
We definitely recommend visiting Shiloh. It’s not too far out from Corinth, Mississippi, which is about an hour from where we live. The museum there is small but worthwhile, and the film is quite informative (and actually a reenactment told from multiple viewpoints, so it is somewhat violent and a little gory at times). The cemetery is quite moving, and the battlefield tour itself is lengthy (a driving tour with about twenty stops!). Every one of us, from the forty-one year old to the two year old, enjoyed it. The perfect ending for us was spotting about a dozen or so whitetail deer as we were leaving the park. Highly Recommended.
