It seems that I’m having some issues with my blog. I thought it was just me and my old computer, but I’ve learned that others are having trouble loading individual blog posts and leaving comments, too. This is a PSA that is really apropos of nothing, other than to say that I’m going ahead with a weekly bookclub for homeschooling mothers/fathers/parents/interested parties despite the short notice and blog technical issues. We’ll be reading The Core by Leigh Bortins together at the rate of one or two chapters a week, and I will post my thoughts on Mondays. I’m hurrying this along because I’d like to have finished reading this before we get totally immersed in our new school year. Here’s the schedule:
Monday, July 9: Your “I’m participating” post
Monday, July 16: chapter 1, “What’s Wrong with Education Today?’
Monday, July 23: chapter 2, “Why We Need Classical Education”
Monday, July 30: chapter 3, “How Classical Education Can Help You”
Monday, August 6: chapter 4, “Reading” and chapter 5, “Writing”
Monday, August 13: chapter 6, “Math” and chapter 7, “Geography”
Monday, August 20: chapter 8, “History” and chapter 9, “Science”
Monday, August 27: chapter 10, “Fine Arts” and chapter 11, “Schedules and Resources for Classical Education”
Monday, September 3: epilogue, “How a Classical Education Gives Us Skills We Need as Adults” and your final thoughts
I’ll have a linky up each Monday, and I’ll leave it open for the duration of the bookclub. My posts will probably be a mixture of my disjointed thoughts and quotes that I like, so please don’t expect anything terribly formal. Yours can be whatever you want. I hope I can get the issue with my posts and commenting resolved ASAP, but since I’m the chief cook and bottlewasher here at Hope Is the Word and my technical knowledge is almost nil, don’t hold your breath. 🙂 Either find (and like!) Hope Is the Word on Facebook and leave a message there that you’re participating, send me an email [hopeistheword (at) gmail (dot) com], or link up your blog post below.
I’m looking forward to it!
