There’s a first time for everything, friends. Today I am reviewing a music collection, of all things! I was contacted by the publicist for the Laurie Berkner Band about reviewing a compilation disk of her most popular songs, and because I’m always looking for something with which to entertain the DLM, I said yes. (Newsflash: parenting this boy has been waaaay different than parenting my girls at the same age. He is twice as busy and needs nearly constant interaction with someone. Keeping him constructively busy is an ongoing project for me. Whew!) I remembered reading something about the “kindie rock” Laurie Berkner Band, so I figured we couldn’t go wrong. It turns out that I was right! This is an oft-requested CD for long and short van trips, and while the resident middle graders complain about it, both the DLM and I really enjoy it. (I will admit that some of the songs get stuck on repeat in one’s brain, but it could be worse.) The DLM’s favorite song in the collection is the a capella, chant-like “I’m a Mess.” My girls may or may not groan audibly when I turn this one on. 😉 (You can read the lyrics here.) I admit that I find it fun, cheerful, and endearing. My favorites are “Choc-o-lot in My Pock-o-lot” (I love the fun and poetry of this one!) and the imminently memorable “Bottle Caps.”
These are fun, energetic tunes that are very accessible for the preschool and primary crowd and their parents. Visit the Laurie Berkner Band website for more information.
Many thanks to Waldmania for sending this fun CD my way!
